Who is this person who makes these things? And why?
As a kid I was dragged through the decorator showrooms of Melrose Ave. by my working mother. That influence came out later as "whimsical" tile furniture.
As an architecture student I wanted to join the carpenters' union because I thought one should learn from the bottom up. Instead, I got a job restoring antique stained glass windows and then an apprenticeship with a designer. This was the foundation of my lifetime pursuit of this ancient craft.
My favorite response was the juror at the show opening who said to me, "I just knew you were a large man."
